Less Hours Doesn't Mean More Jobs Silly

Dash at The Boiling Point has a great article today about the failed experiment in France to boost employment by cutting everyone's hours. Suprise. Artifical means do not achieve actual ends. Dash asks how many hours do you work and why?

I personally work over 50 every week and during season I regularly hit 60. Of course I plan to start school in the fall so my *on the job* work load will decrease but of course my over-all work load will increase.

But then I'm a money - hungry Capitalist :D

A lot of people don't want to believe it, but capitalism works. (No pun inteneded.)

Capitalism is a law of nature and, like the law of gravity, does not yield to tinkering.

This is true not only for direct market forces but also for central banking manipulation of the money supply=inflation.

One argument I like to throw out is to the raise-minimum-wage-crowd. I'm 48. I've seen inflation and minimum wage raises damage the economy many times.

It goes like this: Why not just make the minimum wage $50/hr...or $100/hr? This usually makes them change their tune to a moral argument that can be addressed on philosophic grounds. Some of them, though, think this would be a GOOD idea.

Couldn't find a way to contact you via email or contact form, so I'm leaving a comment:

Have you setup a syndication feed for this blog? If not, the steps are easy--

1. From your Blogger "Dashboard" click on the name of your blog.
2. Choose the "Settings" tab.
3. Choose the "Site feed" tab.
4. From the "Publish Site Feed" pop up menu choose "Yes."
5. Click the "Save Settings" button at the bottom of the page.

Also, you essentially have two blogs? Am I correct in surmising that one is more scholarly and the other more personal? I'm just trying to categorize my blog feeds and I want to keep track of your two blogs. Good job, btw.

Thanks Felipe-I thought I had that on, Oh I forgot when I changed the layout.

Yes, this one is going to be more personal and short where as I eventually want to write my own articles on the other. I'm just building up material right now.
